Background of the Study
Workplace stress is a growing concern in the banking sector due to high job demands, long working hours, and performance pressure. Employees in the banking industry often experience stress from excessive workloads, job insecurity, and customer-related pressures, which can negatively impact their efficiency, productivity, and overall well-being (Ogunleye & Salisu, 2024). The ability of employees to manage stress effectively plays a crucial role in their job performance and organizational success.
Fidelity Bank, like other financial institutions in Nigeria, operates in a highly competitive environment where employee efficiency is critical for service delivery and customer satisfaction. However, stress-related issues such as burnout, fatigue, and declining job engagement are prevalent among bank employees, leading to decreased efficiency and job dissatisfaction (Adegbite & Hassan, 2023). Despite efforts to implement stress management programs, many employees still struggle with work-life balance and mental well-being.
This study investigates the extent to which workplace stress influences employee efficiency in Fidelity Bank, Kaduna State. It will explore the causes of stress, its impact on job performance, and strategies for mitigating workplace stress in the banking sector.
Statement of the Problem
Despite growing awareness of workplace stress and its effects on employee performance, many financial institutions, including Fidelity Bank, struggle to create effective stress management frameworks. Stress-related absenteeism, decreased job satisfaction, and reduced productivity remain persistent challenges (Obi & Salami, 2024).
Existing research on workplace stress has primarily focused on general job stressors but has not sufficiently examined its direct impact on employee efficiency in the Nigerian banking sector. This study seeks to bridge this gap by analyzing how workplace stress affects employee efficiency in Fidelity Bank, Kaduna State.
